Santiago is Chile's largest city and is also the capital of the country. It is a modern city, with distinct areas or "Barrios to visit that all have their own unique flavor (El centro downtown is very modern and fast-paced; Bellavista is dotted with all trendy cafes, restaurants and bars, Barrio Brasil is the university area - where it seemed everyone had dreads). You also get a great view of snow-capped mountains in the background, although the thick smog can often cover them.

There are also fantastic ski resorts nearby that are relatively cheap and you can rent all your equipment and clothing too and transportation is easy to organize. We also went to a football match which was definetely a memorable experience, and of course, the nearby vineyards.

Although not quite as exciting as perhaps some of the other cities as it is similar to any modern city, looking back at it, I miss it and Chile in general. Hope to return soon.
