Saint Davids Cathedral in Wales.
Attractions & Amusements in Wales picture - Wales: Bob Scott took this picture of St. Davids Cathedral in which for over a thousand years, the spot upon which St David's Cathedral stands has been associated with the patron saint of Wales. David founded a monastery here during the 6th century; hence the present Welsh name Tyddewi [David's House]. Tradition has it that he was also born here, and that Non, his mother, gave birth to him on the spot on the cliffs to the south of the cathedral now marked by the ruins of St. Non's Chapel. David's place of birth and the cathedral built in his name became one of the most important shrines of medieval Christendom. In 1120 Pope Calixtus canonised David and declared that two pilgrimages to St David's equalled in merit to one visit to Rome; three visits to St. David's equalled one to Jerusalem.
