<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> The Organ.<br> Attractions &#38; Amusements in Wales picture - Wales: Bob Scott took this picture of the organ that was built in 1883 by &#34;Father&#34; Henry Willis, one of the outstanding organ builders of the l9th century. For seventy years it stood untouched on the screen, where it could speak to both nave and choir. In 1954, the organ was re-housed in a new case which was not big enough to house the whole instrument on the screen. The larger pedal pipes were therefore removed to the south transept. This has created an enormous problem of balance ever since, as these pipes are too loud for services in the choir and not loud enough for services and concerts in the nave. In the 1980s, further alterations and additions were made, including removing the original Willis choir division of the organ. The original pipe work was kept and stored. The organ has recently been removed for extensive overhaul and repair. The Dean and Chapter see this as an opportunity to provide the Cathedral with the first-class instrument it deserves. </div></nolayer></noembed>
