We made the so-called W trek. I think that Torres del Paine is the most impressive NP in the Western hemisphere, comparable perhaps with Grand Canyon only. You can see the cold touch of ice everywhere: mountain glaciers, saw-toothed peaks and rocks shaped by glaciers, cold wind and humid air. The wind here was like coming from a different planet: blowing with terrific strength, which was able to reverse upwards small, crushed and dusty icefalls and even the waterfalls! On the lakes, the wind lifted hundreds of gallons of water into the air and then showered the next shore completely. Despite of that, the water in the lakes (at least during the summer) is surprisingly warm. And sleeping under the glacier gives you an impression of sleeping right in the middle of the airport runway: the never ending noise of falling ice is something between the Jumbo Jet landing and the signal which must post the Doomsday. The biodiversity is also worthy to mention: there are so much flowers and birds here! Although short, the Patagonian summer is really full of life. I felt like Alice in Wonderland...
We arrived there by bus from Puerto Natales. Experiencing virtually all types of weather (sometimes all of them during one single day) was a real challenge for the photographer. I really enjoyed it! Hopefully, so you do as well.
