Santo Antonio chapel (1715)
The Algarve picture - From the street the building looks quite ordinary, but the pictures from inside will show why it is one of Portugals most important national treasures. Saint Anthony of Padua was born in Lisbon, and his humble church there was one of the few that survived the great earthquake. Military personnel had worked on its construction, and that may be why he was chosen as patron for this military chapel. By the way, this was where King Sabastião attended his last Mass before his horrendous debacle in Morocco.
