Perhaps my favorite of Ludwig's castles is Linderhof - not just for the castle but for the wonderful grounds and follies. This is Ludwig's completed castle and hidden private retreat. Interestingly, the Versailles-loving Ludwig not only furnished his castles and gardens to resemble Versailles, he also decorated his castle with Louis XIV's family portraits rather than those of his own family.
