Sightseeing in Berlin picture - The Jewish War Memorial in the Hansaviertel neighborhood stands at the site of one of several synagogues damaged on Kristallnacht, November 9-10, 1938. During WWII, the Nazis used the synagogue as a detention center for deporting Jews to the concentration and extermination camps. The synagogue was torn down in 1950. The memorial captures the idea of the deported Jews being loaded like cargo into train cars.
