Sightseeing in Berlin picture - In his Stolpersteine Project, artist Gunter Demnig encases small concrete blocks in brass and then stamps information about a person who once lived at some site whom the Nazis deported to one of the extermination camps and killed. These are then installed in the sidewalk in front of the place where they once lived. More than 11,000 have been installed to date. These five Stolpersteine were in the sidewalk in front of my Berlin hotel. Paul and Charlotte Tawrigowski and their children Evelyne, Heinz and Denny once lived at this site. They were deported to Auschwitz in 1943 and murdered there.
