When completed, it served as Johnson City&#146;s first courthouse with a jail in the basement. The first church congregation (Methodist) met in an upstairs room of this building until their church building was constructed, and Lyndon B. Johnson&#146;s local offices were later located here. The building has also been a hotel, hardware store, retirement center, &#38; dance hall. Sadly, it has been extensively modified by the bank &#38; does not qualify for a heritage building designation. </div></nolayer></noembed>
