During my 2007 Germany trip, I visited the village of Uttenreuth because some of my ancestors had come to the U.S. from there. To get there I took the train from where I was staying in Nurnberg to Erlangen, and then a taxi to the village, just three miles away. When I returned to Erlangen, I spent the afternoon exploring the town before catching a train back to Nurnberg.

Erlangen is regarded as one of the best preserved Baroque cities in Germany, according to my guidebook. It has its own palace, some interesting history, a choice of restaurants for lunch, and of course a train station.
