Evora's massive cathedral
Sightseeing in Evora picture - Located at the highest place in the city, it was first begun in the 12th century, following the general design of Lisbons cathedral. It is the largest mediaeval gothic cathedral in Portugal, with a nave some 70m (230 ft) long, and the countrys oldest functioning organ, built around 1544. It has been enlarged and embellished many times, as recently as the 18th century, so its interior bears witness to many evolving artistic genres.
