Funny enough, for a desert, there are only a couple of actual "dune" areas in the Park. These were just outside of Stovepipe Wells Village and had the dubious distinction of having witnessed the tragic death of a honeymooner according to the Visitor's Guide. This day, December 21st, the temps were only 48 degrees, but the dunes still looked forbidding to me. Rule of thumb--don't go out on the dunes without a LOT of water, no matter what month it is.
