Dwellingup is located 113km south of Perth, a drive of approximately one and a half hours from Perth city centre.

Dwellingup is situated in a timber and fruit-growing district east of Pinjarra. It has a population of around 400, and the name is derived from the Nyoongar word for "place of nearby water".
