That's what one of the National Geographic naturalists on board told us during our recent cruise to Antarctica.
These wonderful seabirds in their black and white formal attire show human tendencies and look quite comical as they lift up their little wings and try to keep their balance while walking this way and that . They remind us of little clowns in a circus - Charlie Chaplin comes to mind - as they clumsily waddle about on land. But once in the water, they're as fast as fish as they dart back and forth looking for food or just plain enjoying the freedom of their more comfortable habitat, the cold waters of the Antarctic.
We walked around hundreds of penguins when we visited them around the Antarctic Peninsula this past November of 2007. Come, enjoy them with us. And try not to laugh at yourself !
