Luís de Camões (1527-1570), often called “Portugal’s Shakespeare”, is generally considered to be the greatest poet of the Portugal’s “Golden Age”. He wrote lyric poetry in both Portuguese and Spanish, but is most noted for “The Lusiads”, an epic poem in heroic style similar to those of Homer and Virgil.
