… from St George’s castle, you see in the distance the “April 25 Bridge”, once Europe’s longest suspension bridge, (that honour now belonging to the Vasco da Gama bridge). It resembles San Francisco’s Golden Gate bridge, and indeed was built by the same company. Until 1998 it was the only bridge between Lisbon and the Alentejo.
