Adam's Peak is 2243m high, and a 7km climb from Dalhousie via ~6000 steps. It was quite an easy climb for me. 2.5 to 3 hours will be enough to climb to the peak if you are fit. The descend wasn't as hard as described in many guidebooks. As long as you control your landing without putting too much weight on your knees, you'll be fine.
