Munnar is a beautiful and quiet place set amid the most dramatic mountain scenery. It is the commercial centre of some of the worlds highest tea growing estates. The combination of craggy peaks, manicured tea estates and crisp mountain air makes Munnar a delightful alternative to the better-known hill stations of Tamilnadu. The walks out of Munnar in any direction offer spectacular views. Eravikulam National park is 16 km away where one can see the rare Nilgiri tahr (a mountain goat). Anamudi, south Indias highest peak, forms a perfect background.
It is comfortable to hire an autorickshaw to explore the surroundings of Munnar in the early morning. It is very delightful to see the misty blankets lingering over the valleys of emerald tea gardens. There are several serene lakes around Munnar, some of them with boat riding facilities. If you really want to have the most out of Munnar stay there for two or three days and start walking at random directions. You are sure to have a soothing break from the hectic routine far at your city. Munnar can be approached from Kochi, Coimbatore or Madurai.
