An underwater restaurant was the original concept for SeaWorld, but when it was found to be unfeasible, a marine zoological park was suggested. Opened in 1964, SeaWorld San Diego has grown from a 22-acre park drawing 400,000 visitors in the first year, to a 200-acre vacation destination visited by over 80 million people!
