St. Joseph Statue
Churches, Temples & Mosques in San Diego picture - St. Joseph was the patron saint of the expedition to San Diego. The priests and soldiers that were sent to establish Missions in Alta (Upper) California were having a rough time. With their supplies running low, they prayed for a miracle. Days later on St. Joseph's Feast Day, a ship was sighted, and although it was headed to Monterey, it sailed into San Diego because of a loss of its anchor. The men were spared from starvation and the work to establish Missions continued.
