Dandenong Ranges Track, Monbulk South

The Dandenong Ranges Tourist Track is a 15 km walking route linking the towns of Emerald and Sassafras, 45 km east of Melbourne.

The Track was constructed 101 years ago, in 1907, for excursionists from Melbourne.

This album shows the 5 km (return) Moxham's Rd to Rankin's Rd section of the track, in the Monbulk district, which runs alongside the Sassafras Creek, through splendid fern gullies. ... (more)

The Emerald/Monbulk area was subject to gold mining in the mid to late 19th century. There are many open and covered/grown over mineshafts throughout the region including in this reserve. For you own safety, do not venture of the main tracks at any time. This is particularly relevant in the vicinity of creek/drainage lines.

Howdy Bob, What a wonderful place to visit and have a walk around, amazing amount of ferns and fern trees and what a lovely little babbling brook that creek is. Sure are some huge logs though, must have been some large trees there at one stage in the past!
