About 70 miles west of Austin lies the German town of Fredericksburg (Pop. 8,911) which lies in the middle of a peach and grape growing region with numerous wineries around the area. It's also home to the Pacific War Museum and quite possibly, the best shop I've been into complete with unlimited free samples selling an enormous variety of condiments, conserves, salsas, fudge, hot sauces, nut butters, curds, jellies and crumbles. There's an open jar with crackers for every one to try out! Beware the extra hot stuff though. When Texans mean hot, they mean INFERNO! Hotness is measured in Schofield units apparently.
