St. Albans is a little town between the M1 and A1(M), 25 miles North of London. We went there to visit close relatives and soon learnt a lot about this pretty town.

St Albans has a long history. The town has evolved around the St. Albans cathedral. According to legend the first British Christian Martyr namely St. Alban was was beheaded in the 4th century AD around the site of this cathedral. The abbey was at one time the principal abbey in England and the first draft of Magna Carta was drawn there.

We also learnt that outside of Central London, St. Albans district is the most expensive place to live in the UK. This is mainly due to availability of fast trains to London.

St. Albans also boasts of the oldest inn namely "Ye Olde Fighting Cocks " in England. It seems that the city of Nottingham contradicts this and claims that "Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem" from thier city is the oldest.

We also were lucky to get to experience a market in the Market place. This market is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays and has been in existence for several hundred years.
