During my 2006 Hawaii trip, I visited Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site. King Kamehameha I built it in the 1790s in dedication to his family's war god, as part of his effort to unite the Hawaiian Islands. The side also features Mailekini Heiau, which was converted to a fort, and just offshore the Hale o Kapuni Heiau, dedicated to the shark gods.
