Jodhpur is the second largest city of Rajasthan. It was formerly the seat of a princely state of the same name. Situated almost in the center of the state, Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination. The main attraction of Jodhpur is the Jodhpur Fort or Mehrangarh Fort and the Umaid Bhavan Palace. It also has some beautiful temples. The following are pictures that I took of Jodhpur.

The last three pictures were taken at Khuri, a village about 40 kilometers from Jaisalmer. Though a tiny village, Khuri attracts scores of tourists because of its close proximity from the Thar Desert. People go to Khuri to see the sand dunes of the desert. Some stay at Khuri overnight. Most people go there to taste or enjoy a desert camel safari which can last from a couple of hours to upto a week. Those who choose a short camel safari usually go there late in the afternoon to see the spectacular sunset over the sand dunes of Khuri.

I traveled from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer and my original plan was to visit Khuri on the next day to enjoy a camel ride and to see the sun set over the sand dunes of Khuri. But when we arrived at Jaisalmer from Jodhpur, my taxi driver and I thought there was still time to proceed to Khuri to see the sunset. So without checking in at the hotel in Jaisalmer, we proceeded straight to Khuri. There I hired a camel and went out for the sand dunes. I was just a tad late. Even before we reached the actual sand dunes, the sun started to set. It was a vast open ground and the sand dunes were actually visible from the place where I was at the time of sunset. So, though I was not standing on the dunes at the time, I did see the sun setting over the dunes. Then, of course, I went to the sand dunes and stood there for some time until the last light of the day vanished and darkness descended.

I did enjoy the camel ride, the sand dunes, and the sunset. The only regret is my camera battery went down (after shooting all day at Jodhpur). So I could not take more pictures at Khuri. I have only three pictures of Khuri. But my memory of Khuri will last for ever. The trip was well worth it.
