Jaisalmer, also known as "the Golden City", is situated right in the middle of the Thar Desert and is the closest Rajasthani town from the Pakistan/India border. The city stands on a hill of golden yellow sandstone which gives a golden hue to the area. Hence it is called The Golden City.
