in 1836 was replaced by a new one in 1979. (The Radio Beacon equipment was supplied by ‘Nautel’, a Canadian firm.) There’s a French WWI Memorial nearby, but I missed it. The carved pillar in the foreground is one of 8 carved pillars from nearby Gingee Fort.
