This vimana-like building, 190 feet high with eight storeys, is the Goodagopuram or palace watch tower, & was also the armory of the Thanjavur Kings until 1855 A.D. Madamaligai, a 6 story tower, is said to "rise from the palace roof beyond the Goodagopuram", but I’m not sure which tower they mean? Apparently, it was destroyed by lightning & was subsequently repaired & preserved.
