I think the central 'sanctum' is the gold covered shrine hiding behind the round one in the center foreground. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, one of the foremost Hindu Gods. The central sanctum enshrines "Ranganathar" which is Lord Vishnu in a reclining posture. One of the most sacred of Ranganatha temples is this one at Srirangam. Non-Hindus are not allowed into the gold - topped sanctum.
