This is the Naanmugan Gopuram, the main attraction in the complex. At 236 feet (72m) & 15 stories tall, it is the tallest gopuram (temple tower/entrance) in India & the biggest one in the Asian Sub-Continent. It is completely covered with intricately carved & brightly painted statues of the many incarnations of Vishnu. It dates from the 17th century, although it wasn’t completed until 1987.
