We came across The Isle of Bute almost by accident as our map shows it as being part of the mainland of Argyll. Well it's not, you really have to drive on a ship and "go over" to Bute even if it's just a ten minute crossing from Colintraive. Tip about Colintraive: don't try the hotel's extensive menu, it's all packet food and far too expensive. But the beer's OK. Once on the island it's about four miles to the first village and here you can get good fresh seafood in the Lobster Pot cafe or The ... (more)
