Brindavan Gardens is perhaps the most spectacular tourist attraction around Mysore city. The garden is about 20 kilometers from Mysore. It lies adjacent to the Krishnarajasagara dam which is built across the river Cauvery (Kaveri). Brindavan Gardens is a terraced garden and was originally called Krishnarajendra Terrace Garden. The construction of the garden was started in the year 1927 and completed in 1932. The garden has many fountains, a long waterway, and a man-made lake having boating facilities. All of these use the water resources of the dam. The garden is spread across an area of about 60 acres.

Since the fountains of the garden are illuminated with colored lights every evening, the best time of the day to visit the garden is late afternoon or evening. Besides, there is an added attraction you can enjoy if you visit the garden in the evening. It is called the “Dancing Fountains” in which bursts of water are synchronised to the music of songs. This event starts at 7 p.m. everyday and runs for about an hour. The fountains are illuminated with colored lights and they sprinkle the water in various ways according to the rhythm of the songs played in the background. This event is really worth seeing (and hearing). I went to the garden at 4 p.m. and stayed till 8 p.m. You should do likewise if you want to enjoy the garden in the daylight and also want to see the illumination and the Dancing Fountains in the evening.
