Thsi article is mainly about SOME hotels in Siwa oasis in the western desert of Egypt, more about the oasis are in my other articles (will be published soon).

The first photo is for a resort where only the basic stone is built :) it is just behind Gebel El-Dakroury. The third photo is where king Fouad stayed. There is also a photo for Shali from the roof of Cleopatra hotel which is a budget hotel where I stayed, also there is a photo for the taxi of Siwa :). Now to some hotels:

1- The desert rose: It is located about 3 kms away from downtown on the way to bir wahed in an area called "el-shahayem" (southwest of Siwa), I felt as if I'm on the borders with the great sand sea as the old asphalt ends only about 200 meters after the hotel (my personal conclusion that this asphalt was paved when king Fouad visited the oasis). There are only 8 rooms with external bathroom, prices on B&B are 70, 120, 180 L.E. for single, double or triple room respectively, but you'll add everyday transportation to move anywhere (about 20 L.E. each time), they can prepare siwan food.

2-Dream lodge: Located in the northeast of Siwa. It is built and operated by a local siwan person named "Gamal Youssef" who is originally a builder, the lodge consists of only 6 rooms (planning to build more) each room with internal bathroom, TV, fan and heater. Prices on B&B are 120, 160, 190 L.E. for sinlge, double or triple room respectively. Contact 046/4601745 , 010/7625862, 010/0999255. The lodge is still new and can prepare siwan food.

3- Reem hotel: It is on the way from downtown to the oracle, there is a small natural pool. Prices on B&B are 90, 140 L.E. for normal rooms (single & double respectively), 110, 160 L.E. for air conditioned rooms (single and double respectively), all rooms with TV, fan, refrigerator and water heater.

4- El-bab enshal hotel: "El-bab enshal" is the siwan name for the main gate of the town Shali (checkother articles for more details), it is located in the main square in Siwa. It is just build less than 2 years ago, and as I heard is owned by "Mounir Ne'matalla" the owner of "Adrar Amellal".

5- Adrar Amellal Ecolodge: in the Siwan language it means the white mountain, sometimes also called Ga'far for the Shrine of a good person in the area named "Ga'far". The white mountain itself is the the one in the first photo having its name. It is located about 17 kms to the west of Siwa at the western end of the western lake.

My personal opinion that it is a great idea to have several places for dining, but still 400 $/night a little bit expensive (safari trip included and I think it is the price of the royal suit). Still talking about adrar amellal.

However, there are some people who disagree with such a lodge, some locals say that a poor man can't build a house anymore as such ecolodges increased the prices of building material, for example a palm stem which used to cost 1 L.E. is now for 6 L.E. (six times the price).

Some said that adrar amellal is owned (on paper) by a local so as to get "aid" funding for the project, but in reality it is owned by an investor.

There are other several budget hotels most are near the main square, just to state their names: Cleopatra hotel, Arous el-waha hotel, kelany hotel, palm trees hotel & youssef hotel. Beside other hotels upto three stars: Kenoz shali lodge, siwa safari paradise hotel, taghaghein island (inside the western lake), Mubarak hotel, Penta hotel and Siwa inn (most of them have a natural water pool).
