Walkers are permitted to use the track, which forms a division between the catchment area and State Forest.
On May 4, 2008, I walked the 4 km (return) northern section of this track, starting the junction with Monda Rd, and descending to a turnaround point about 2 km down the ridge, passing the very steep foot-track up to the summit of Mt St Leonard, at 1010m.
This section of the track has a change in altitude from 691m to 564m, and passes through excellent forest, with views through the trees to the Yarra Valley and Warramate Hills.
The forest was fomerly heavily logged and the remains of this destruction are visible along the track.
I had previously completed the southern section of this track, from Donnelley's Weir.
