I enjoy train travel and try to take at least one train trip a year. With the exception of late arrivals, this was a very pleasant and relaxing trip. Unfortunately, leaving Los Angeles, they had mechanical problems with the locomotive and we were an hour late before we arrived at Pomona, about 35 miles away. Then we had to sit on the outskirts of Pomona for another hour or so waiting for them to bring a replacement locomotive because the one we had would not operate the dynamic brakes on the train. After that, the lateness compounded itself and we wound up being about 9 hours late into New Orleans.

Back when I was working, that would have driven me up the wall. Now that I'm a certified old guy and retired, I just relaxed and enjoyed the extra time on the train.
