While most of my visit in Orange and San Diego Counties was to visit family and friends, I did make a couple of side trips. Anza Borrego Desert State Park in eastern San Diego County was one of them. This is a huge park with a variety of low desert, high desert, and mountainous terrains. If you catch it at just the right time, the wild flowers are spectaular. Unfortunately, I was about ten days late. There were still a few blooms but the bulk of them had been shriveled by a sudden heat wave.
