When the mining boom slowed down in the early twentieth century, business and political activities started to shift towards Reno. When legalized gambling and liberal divorce laws came into effect in Nevada in 1931, "The Biggest Little City in the World" was the place to visit.
While the divorce business has died down since other states have similar laws, and Las Vegas has taken over as the gambling mecca of Nevada, Reno still has it's place with it's favorable taxes and proximity to Lake Tahoe.
