Lake Tahoe straddles the California and Nevada Border, just west of Carson City Nevada. It is the second deepest lake in the United States, with a maximum depth of 1645 feet (501 meters). The lake is known for its water clarity and for its panoramic view of the surrounding mountains on all sides. It is interesting to note that while the lake is 6229 feet (1899 meters) above sea level, it never freezes in winter. Many casinos, ski resorts, and water sport activities can be found in proximity to Lake Tahoe.
