When the MGM Grand first opened on December 18, 1993, the main entrance off The Strip was through the mouth of a huge lion head. This was changed due to the fact that many Asian gamblers would not enter the casino through the lion's mouth, as it was considered bad luck in their culture. The entrance has since been moved, and a bronze statue of a lion has been put in its place.
