Located on scenic Lalith Mahal Road (which leads to the Lalith Mahal hotel), this is the home of the Commandant Mounted Company, the mounted police unit of the Karnataka Armed Reserve Police. The Mysore unit of the mounted police came into effect in 1952 & was constituted out of non-Indian State forces which formerly served the royal family. Mysore is now one of the few cities in the world to have mounted police. The mounted force not only infuses a semblance of majesty in the city of palaces, but it is also useful in crowd control. Like other heritage sites in the city, this one is now permanently illuminated to shore up its heritage value.
