South of the palace is the octagonal Kalyana Mandapam (wedding pavilion) exquisitely decorated in a peacock theme with materials from Scotland, England & even Czechoslovakia. The palace has now been converted into a museum housing the souvenirs, paintings, jewelry, royal costumes & other items which were once owned by the Wodeyars. The palace is also the venue for the most extravagant festival of Mysore - the 10-day Mysore Dasara festival held every autumn in September/October, a fesitval that has been celebrated in Mysore with great pomp & ceremony for many centuries. During the two-month period, the palace is illuminated with more than 10,000 lights. It is also illuminated on Sunday nights. Excellent source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mysore_Palace
