Raccoon Creek State Park in beautiful Beaver County, Pennsylvania lays about 25 miles west of the City of Pittsburgh and about seven or eight miles from the Pittsburgh International Airport. Raccoon Creek is one of the larger state park in Pennsylvania. These pictures were taken on April 22, 2008, after my wife & I voted on Primary Election Day. The park is located just 30 minutes from our home in the Pittsburgh suburbs, so getting there is very easy. After voting my wife & I trooped through the park for a few hours. First we went on the Wetlands Trail in the western area of the park before hiking the Valley Trail and then walking the Wildflower Meadows in the extreme eastern end of the park. If you go, please take the Wetlands Trail: while not the most challenging hike in the park, it is the best place to see wildlife. We saw Canadian Geese and other birds galore in the swampy marsh and I even nearly stepped on two small snakes sunning themselves. Very rewarding. The only thing I didn't like about Raccoon is that the park itself sits in the flight-line of Pittsburgh International Airport, so oftentimes the peace and tranquility of nature is cruelly interrupted by the whine of jet engines as a 767 comes gliding in for a landing ...
