The Gallatin National Forest was founded in 1899, comprising 2.1 million acres (8,500 square kilometers) and is located just south of Bozeman Montana. While the lower elevations are covered with grasses and sagebrush, the higher elevations support Douglas Fir, Spruce, Aspen, and Cottonwood trees.
