<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> Senate House (1873),<br> Sightseeing in Madras picture - located on the University of Madras campus across from Marina Beach, was completed in 1873 &#38; is an architectural marvel that blends Indo-Saracenic (Islamic) &#38; Byzantine architectural styles. Note especially the four towers with exquisite domes. At one time, the building housed some university departments as well as the offices of the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar. Meetings of the senate, academic council &#38; the faculties were held in some of the smaller halls, hence the name. But after the construction of two new buildings, the use of Senate House dwindled &#38; was limited to convocations, exams, &#38; a few classrooms, &#38; even convocations were moved to a new building after 1965. Sadly, the majestic building has fallen into disrepair due to neglect &#38; the ravages of nature. But there seems to be plans afoot to restore this amazing structure, hopefully, to its former glory. </div></nolayer></noembed>
