Our 2 weeks in Crete were spent with the family in the lovely Villa Raphael, a restored 100 year old villa in the village of Plaka. The village had all the ammenities we needed - excellent tavernas and mini-markets for supplies and was a 20 minute walk down hill to the small resort of Almyrida and about half an hour drive from Chania airport. As this was mainly a family holiday, we did not do quite our normal amount of touring and exploring but did manage a few excurions and local walks. Though there is some new development in the area, it is still a beuatiful part of Crete, well worth visiting and ideal for a family holiday.
