Dodge is now a tourist attraction but, in its hayday, it was the northern terminus of huge cattle drives providing meat to the tables of the east. Because of the loose money available from the trail riders, it attracted more than its share of thieves, con-men, ladies of negotiable virtue, and other assorted knaves. It also attracted others. We've all become familiar with the western legends but people such as Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, Doc Holliday, and Ben Tilghman actually did work and make or enhance their reputations here. In my career, it has often been my role to either tell people or to think to myself, "it's time to get out of Dodge". Finally I was able to say it for real.
