Kiev is called the Mother of Russian Cities because the Russia and Ukraine started, as Kievan Rus. Dniepr River (Slavutuch)always was very important for Kiev. Even now western and eastern parts of the City are called Left bank and Right bank. There are number of bridges connecting left and right banks.
