View of the wall toward the cannons
Sightseeing in Penang picture - The original wooden stockade (nibong palms) was replaced with this stone & brick structure in 1804 using convict labour from India. The fort's walls, roughly 10 feet high, are laid out in a star-like formation. There was a moat surrounding the fort at one time but it was filled up in the 1920s because of a malaria outbreak in the area.
