The Pinang Fountain Statue,
Sightseeing in Penang picture - also located along Weld Quay, was a recent controversial beautification project that got mixed reviews from the locals. The 4.8m-high stainless steel structure, which portrays two halves of the pinang fruit (betel nut) on each side of a whole one in the center, is meant to show the determination of Penangites. [Penang/Pinang is named after the pinang (betel nut palm) which was found in great abundance on the island years ago.]
