Sightseeing in Penang picture - the Penang ferry terminal. The Penang Ferry Service, the oldest ferry service in Malaysia, began operation in 1920 under the management of a Chinese-owned company. Today, it is managed by the Penang Port Commission. The fleet of 8 ferries, purchased from Hong Kong, carry both foot passengers & vehicles between this ferry terminal in Georgetown, & the Butterworth terminal on the mainland. They operate from 530am to 1am & the fares are very reasonable at RM1.20 (about Cdn 35 cents) for adult foot passengers, RM2.00 for motorcycles including pillion rider, RM7.70 for a car, & RM13.20 - 27.50 for lorries. These fares are payable only when you are going TO the island. All fares to leave the island are free. I love using the ferry & go over to the mainland at least once every winter to shop or to sightsee.
